[What did Mrs. Brisby do today, one may ask. Usually there is no answer, as she does perfectly fine keeping to herself.

Not today. She shifts a bit uncomfortably, fidgeting. It's clear enough, at least, that she is incredibly uncomfortable.]

Can... someone explain what a "pet store" is to me? Or... explain what a "pet" really is.

I don't think I've ever seen such a dreadful and uncomfortable place...

I bet...I felt the same way about my dad until he showed up here. Oh! Maybe the same thing will happen your your son one day. That would be nice.

Heh, maybe other people's moms are, but not in my case. I don't exactly have a mom to be worried about me in the first place.

Oh, no it's always just been me and my dad. My family situation is kind of...odd, to say the least. But it works!

I'm not really all that special. A-at least, back home, I suppose is the more appropriate way to say that. Johnathan was the one who was special, not me. So seeing other normal mice...

...Well, they... weren't normal in the sense I understand. It was like they weren't really there.
