✽Fifth Post ~ Video✽
[What did Mrs. Brisby do today, one may ask. Usually there is no answer, as she does perfectly fine keeping to herself.
Not today. She shifts a bit uncomfortably, fidgeting. It's clear enough, at least, that she is incredibly uncomfortable.]
Can... someone explain what a "pet store" is to me? Or... explain what a "pet" really is.
I don't think I've ever seen such a dreadful and uncomfortable place...

Pet stores are where people purchase creatures to bring to their hives, care for and obtain companionship from. Um. Ordinarily the creatures involved are of significantly lesser sentience, to the degree that communication is limited or nonexistent between the caretakers and the pets.
[She fidgets awkwardly.]
I've never seen a mouse like that. It was... a little frightening, I admit.
I... gathered from some of the open video responses that they weren't... sentient, in the same way that people from your world are?
...I've never seen anything like it. It was very unsettling...
Why is it like that?
But I really don't know. This... "pets" thing isn't something I ever experienced. I'm used to having caretakers of different levels of sentience, but in my world it's a more reciprocal relationship...

Oh, I... my name is Mrs. Brisby.
And I guess we didn't introduce ourselves at the start of this conversation. I am Kanaya Maryam. It is nice to meet you, Mrs. Brisby.
Kanaya... that's a very lovely name.
Oh. Thank you. Yours is also an interesting name. I don't think I see how to spell it, though.
Oh, well, just a moment. I'm not very good at writing, but my husband taught me how to before he passed away.
[She very briefly grabs a small piece of paper, taking a quill and ink and carefully (and sloppily) writing her name. It... takes a bit, and she has to sound out the syllables.]
[video] Kanaya why are you interrogating the shy mouse all of a sudden? orz
Oh, sewing? Do you make your own clothing?
[Kanaya leans in to study it, taking a moment its completion to double check the letters.]
Oh. Ha, I see. I was thinking that Mrs. was your first name for some reason. Thank you for showing me.
[video 1/2] because that's what Kanaya does? |D
[Gah! Too many questions.]
Well, yes, "Mrs." just means I'm married. And my husband taught me how to sew. I made clothing for my children.
And... being a mother...
But... but I wouldn't give up my children for the world. I love them... I love them so much. I would do anything to keep my children safe, and happy, and healthy.
[video] She doesn't usually do so this insistently though D:
[This thing of parents is interesting, and Kanaya listens closely to it. Especially since Mrs. Brisby is so emphatic about it, compared to her previous remarks.]
That sounds... like a very strong emotional connection. Wow.
[video] Hey, Mrs. Brisby will take any excuse to talk about her kids |D
I don't think there's a stronger love out there. I would do anything for my children. I would - and have - risked my life for them.
[video] So very good that we're focusing on that then XD
You risked your life for them... in what sort of way?
[There are cultural differences that should be explored here before she makes any unnecessarily revealing or alarming remarks.]
